More Than Meets the Eye: Age Really Does Matter
As Baby Boomers age, employers have begun to raise questions regarding differences in employees’ ages and their impact on recruitment, retention, team effectiveness and employee engagement.
Kathy Lynch, Director of Employer Engagement at the Sloan Center on Aging & Work at Boston College, discusses with Human Resources IQ strategies to examine how different dimensions of age in the workplace can act as a facilitator or barrier to talent management and how to adjust existing business strategies such as retention and engagement so that they’re more “age” effective.
In this presentation, Lynch identifies ways in which HR can focus and target their responses to the changing age demographics. These include:
- Offering opportunities for employees and managers to build a new awareness of age diversity
- Reviewing existing programs, Web sites, etc. and identify “age” opportunities
- Considering multiple dimensions of age in all workforce planning efforts
- Leveraging age diversity for innovation
