Yorkshire Post: Technology can attract and retain the brightest young talent

The Yorkshire Post out of the United Kingdom published an article today dedicated to the discussion of technology and how it can attract and retain talent. In it, the author recounts a roundtable discussion that happened at their head office in Leeds. The panel featured Paul Sparkes, product and strategy director at Cascade HR, Steve Sweetlove, who heads up professional services firm RSM’s human resources team, Alex Clements, a partner at law firm Schofield Sweeney, who is an employment law specialist, Emma Plummer head of human resources at Airedale Chemical, a manufacturing firm based in Cross Hills, Tracey Hopkins, the finance director of Howarths People and Safety Management, which is based in Cleckheaton and Katie Rigarlsford, the university business centres manager at Leeds Beckett University. The debate was chaired by Greg Wright, The Yorkshire Post’s deputy business editor.

The group discussed how to make employees feel more engaged, suggesting that happen through the use of surveys. At lease one person, Sparkes, suggested those surveys be anonymous. Others said some would prefer non-anonymous surveys because of their desire to impact and discuss their environment. In fact, suggesting workers, specifically millennials want their voices heard and will vote with their feet if their not happy. In other words, leave the employer based on their job unhappiness. Western Digital Names Lori Sundberg Chief Human Resources Officer

Western Digital Corp. (NASDAQ: WDC) today announced that Lori Sundberg has joined the company as chief human resources officer, effective today. Sundberg will report to Western Digital CEO Steve Milligan and lead key global human resources initiatives and people strategies to support Western Digital’s ongoing transformation at the world’s leading data technology company. She will succeed Jackie DeMaria, who is retiring after a successful 13 year tenure with Western Digital. Sundberg brings more than 20 years of experience in developing and aligning HR strategy with business needs. Sundberg most recently served as senior vice president, Global Human Resources, at Jacobs, a global provider of technical, professional and construction services with more than 50,000 employees worldwide.

EBA: How SurveyMonkey’s new chief people officer engages employees

Employee Benefit Advisor conducted a one-on-one discussion with the first Chief People Officer for SurveyMonkey, Becky Cantieri. Cantieri was promoted from VP of Human Resources to the role. She told EBA she is focused on candidate and employee experience at the company. Cantieri said it spans all of the tradition HR functions, as well as diversity and inclusion initiatives. Iris holds a M.Sc. in Organizational Behavior from the Faculty of Management in Tel Aviv University.
