Matt Guinn has 15 years of experience working in the instructional design industry both in higher education and the corporate sector. At Brigham Young University’s Center for Teaching and Learning he consulted with faculty to design highly interactive learning interventions and distance learning courses. Matt later led the evaluation team, conducting program evaluations and overseeing usability and focus group testing for the university. Outside of academia Matt has spent most of his career in the financial services and fintech industries where he has focused on the practical application of instructional design models and theory. Within his various teams he has integrated a learner-centered focus into project intake and analysis. Matt has also championed an objective-driven design approach, concentrating on aligning learning objectives, instructional content, and assessment to bridge the gap between current and desired behavior and to avoid cognitive overload. Former and current employers include American Express, Discover Financial Services, and LendingClub where he has been an Instructional Designer, Senior Instructional Designer, Senior eLearning Designer, and is currently a Learning Solutions Architect. Matt holds a master’s degree in Instructional Psychology & Technology from Brigham Young University.
