PRECONFERENCE WORKSHOPS

WORKSHOP 1

9:00 am - 11:00 am WORKSHOP 1: Spur Cross-Functional Collaboration in Design Thinking
Danielle Norman - Vice President, HR Services, AMITA Health
As design thinking demonstrates, problem-solving begins with collaboration. What separates great HR systems from the rest, is the close cooperation amongst HR and UX, IT, and other ‘outsiders -- who too are focused on designing more intuitive and interactive systems. How can we use design thinking to break down these organizational siloes, and in turn build a culture of iterating and prototyping?  This workshop is specifically targeted at HR and any other organizational counterparts looking to collaborate to transform an existing process.

WORKSHOP 2

11:30 am - 1:30 pm WORKSHOP 2: Starting with Empathy: Bring the ‘Human’ Component into Human Resources
Adam Primi - Director of Human Resources, Oncology Nursing Society
Erik Rueter - HR Project Lead, Oncology Nursing Society
Empathy, the ability to understand the feelings, thoughts, and life events of another person as that person experiences them, is key to designing effective employee experiences. However, statistics indicate that developing meaningful employee experiences remains a pervasive organizational blind spot. What are practical steps for HR to take to embrace a more employee-centric mindset? How can HR effectively collaborate with other functional units within organizations to develop actionable empathy for all employees?

WORKSHOP 3

2:00 pm - 4:00 pm WORKSHOP 3: Transform the Enterprise with a Design Thinking Mindset for HR
Oliver Sykes - Senior Lead, Global Talent Strategy, Boeing
HR is increasingly called on to play a key role in enterprise growth. This requires them to be full partner in the strategic planning and decision-making process for better work performance, productivity, and employee experience. Using human-centered design is a way for HR to achieve these goals – but how can it be maintained if your organization is hesitant to change?
