Avi Singer, Director of Organizational Development for Undertone Networks, discusses with Human Resources iQ, initiatives that help make your intranet more social networking savvy, including initiatives on knowledge sharing and employee programs and how they grow organically within the organization.

Opportunities for growth and career development ranks high on every employees mind. Giving the opportunity to learn new skills and transition to different roles leverages employee engagement and productivity.

Many organizations have discovered through surveys that the number one reason for voluntary turnover was because of a lack of career pathing.

What companies have done is created job shadowing so that employees have the opportunity to acquire new skills needed to move about job functions within the organization. However, in doing so, the problem was, how are they going to acquire the skills in order to apply for the jobs?

The solution was to develop a social network where employees could learn about opportunities, sign up for a shadowing session and complete a session. The goal was to make it as self sufficient as possible with minimal oversight.

In this presentation, you will learn how to:

  • Articulate social networks place in the talent management context
  • Identify appropriate opportunities for internal social networks
  • Understand the business case for social networks
  • Differentiate successful social networks
