Matthew Owenby

Chief Human Resources Officer Aflac

Matthew Owenby joined Aflac in 2012 as vice president of HR Business Partners, bringing with him more than a decade of HR experience at Bank of America and General Electric. Matthew currently leads the Global Human Resources divisions along with the Corporate Services division where he is responsible for planning and execution the enterprise talent and campus solutions.

While at Aflac, Matthew has been honored with prestigious awards, including ranking No. 1 in the Top Corporate Leaders category, Leadership Excellence Award, as well as being named the Gold winner of the American Business Award and the Gold winner of the Best in Biz Awards, both in the HR Executive of the Year category. In 2018, Matthew received the Lifetime Achievement award and of the CHRO of the Year.  

Additionally, in late 2018 Matthew received the Wharton school’s designation of Global Fellow in Talent management and he was selected to continue his education in the General Management Program.

Matthew is a frequent speaker at industry events and conferences and has presented more than 20 times. Matthew is seen as a thought leader in his areas of expertise and has been featured in over 80 articles both domestic and global news agencies.

Matthew earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Georgia State University and a Master of Business Administration from Mercer University. He is a member of the Society of Human Resource Management.
