Add bookmarkAttracting, retaining and motivating the multigenerational workforce in the public sector is very much the same as the private sector. Yet, the major difference is that corporations in the private sector move much faster than agencies/departments in the public sector in creating change.
Change, however, is what causes significant problems among multi-generations in the workforce. Younger generations are eager to see change, to implement change, to create new ways to execute initiatives in a manner that is more effective and efficient. On the other hand, boomers are not so open to change. They remain in their comfort zone—what has worked in the past.
The key to overcome issues in a multigenerational workforce is to have open, transparent communication that creates that bridge between generations. And keeping that communication stream open requires organizations to know your people.
