I am a teacher, and I have submitted to human resources a request for a day off after fall break. My request was denied due to the fact that the policy states that holidays are not allowed to be extended for vacation purposes. My immediate boss and I are very upset by this because in three years of employment, I have missed 2 days. I am also very upset by this because this current week, a co-worker of mine has Thursday and Friday off when it is Labor Day weekend! And last year, another teacher was approved to take off the day before fall break, and another teacher was granted about eight days before and after breaks in one school year! I have been told by a friend of mine that is HR at her company that this is workplace discrimination. Is this true? If not, is this illegal in any way? And should I go the head of HR to present my case?
