I recently lost a personal item(cell phone) at work not that long ago. I left it behind the customer service counter while i was working. During my shift the girl behind the service desk gave my phone away to a customer claiming he lost a phone. She surrendered the phone to the customer without any type of proof it was his. My question is, who is held responsible? Am I? For leaving it behind the service counter? Is the service girl? For showing neglegiance towards procedure? Or is the store responsible, since the girl was acting as a store representative? I've tried talking to my store manager, but he insists the situation is totally my fault, and tells me its policy that the store is not responsible for lost or theft of personal items, but he has yet to show me the policy.
