Looking for feedback regarding applying for positions. I've been out of work for several months now, 15+ yrs of banking/finince. I was a SR processor for 10yrs, sales assistant for 3, loan consultant for 2, have a Bachelors in Business Admin. Probably the worst possible backgroun for looking for work in this economy/market. I send out resumes everyday/fill out apps online. Most have questionnairs with the apps or follow up tests they email you, if you even meet requirements. This is just to try and pass to get a call from a recruiter/hr person. Which will either lead to setting up a phone interview screening, or maybe a 1st face to face screening. As far as I know, you don't walk into a business anymore and talk to an hr person/recruiter, managers talk to you after you've been screened through the companies hr department/staffing. Unless it's something that pays $10 an hour, you can't walk in and fill out an app talk to the person hiring. Asking because my brother, who hasn't needed to look for a job in 15 yrs, and parents retired, tell me to go out and look in person vs applying online either at careerbuilder/monster/filling out apps directly on companies website etc. That's how I've been applying. Again curious, as they seem to have this "e;your just doing stuff online"e; stance and think I should "e;hit the street"e; in their words. Im like hit the street where? You don't do that anymore. Especially now in this economy with so many peple looking, hr/staffing, they're not gonna waste time meeting with you until you pass some qualification stages first such as online testing/phone interviews at the very least your resume and cover letter need to pass before anyone contacts you etc.. Feedback please? Experiences? thanks Matt
