Day 2 Review – Talent Exchange Live_woman in blue suit jacket

Despite everything happening in the HR space today, talent management continues to be one of the top focuses for all human resources professionals across the globe.  Why?  Talent management as a strategy is a commitment from an organization to recruit, hire and retain the best talent and develop all employees.  But talent management isn’t a simple strategy.  It’s a conglomerate or strategies that must work in harmony to lead to success.  Talent acquisition, recruitment, management and performance all critical to the whole yet each requiring separate focus.

For the second year in a row, the HR Exchange Network has produced an online event centered on talent management.  Talent Exchange Live brings together HR professionals from different industries and solution providers all of whom take on the challenges facing HR today and provides real solutions for the future.

Performance, management, virtual reality, globalization and diversity and inclusion.  All topics discussed on Day Two of HR Exchange Network’s Talent Exchange Live online event.  Here are the top takeaways from the event.

Day 2 Takeaways

  1. Never lose sight of the cash register.

Eric Torigian is the VP and Assistant General Manager of Global HR for Akebono Brake Corporation.  During his presentation entitled Management Secrets They Didn’t Tell You in Business School, Torigian urged HR leaders to “never lose sight of the cash register”.  What did he mean by that?  HR and managers need to understand where the business’ money is made.  They also need to remember to support the employees that make the business profitable.  It’s all part of the necessity of being a great administrator.

  1. VR training allows for growth.

Virtual reality is very exciting, especially as it continues to grow and find new applications in the HR space.  Mursion Vice President Christina Yu discussed in her presentation specifically how VR can be used to train soft skills and do so in an immersive, safe environment.  Yu said virtual reality as a training technology allows for learners to make mistakes and be able to learn and grow on-the-spot.

  1. Global teams are highly collaborative.

The third presenter of the day was Debbie Millin, the chief operating officer for Globalization Partners.  Her presentation focused on hiring internationally and how to onboard talent.  During her presentation, Millin said global teams are highly collaborative.  And she had statistics to back up the claim.  According to research from Globalization Partners and SHRM, 86 percent of global teams work together at least weekly, and they were 12 percent less likely to report problems.

  1. Embracing Diversity & Inclusion in performance reviews is important.

Jackie Hunter is the Director of Diversity and Inclusion for Banner Health.  During her presentation, Hunter focused on diversity and inclusion and how it should be used as part of the performance review process.  Hunter said HR and leaders must know their employees and their teams on multiple levels of diversity, i.e. multigenerational and cultural.  Embracing this information leads to high performing individuals.  Companies who are more gender diverse are 15 percent more likely to outperform those companies that aren’t.  Those companies that are more ethnically diverse are 35 percent more likely to outperform those that aren’t.
